Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble

Not sure what these ants were doing to this tiny fly, but they reminded me of Macbeth’s 3 witches. They spent ages seemingly waving their antennae over the fly yesterday evening, and two of them were still doing it this morning.

The hop plant is the centre of my attention at the moment. This patch of eggs looks about to hatch. I had a batch of these last year, and they are caterpillars but as yet unidentified.

And the comma caterpillars are growing. There are at least 4 of them, all at the same stage, and one per leaf.
