Shag pile bug

IMG_2225

This bug had me puzzled for a while. Looking for all the world like a mobile offcut from a shag pile carpet, it was happily exploring my hop plant.

Some weeks later, while checking iSpot, I spotted the same bug, identified as Scymnus, the larval form of an inconspicuous ladybird. The white coating is wax and is thought to give protection from ant attack.
