Bat survey

We have a colony of pipistrelle bats living in our loft, and I did my first count of the year for the Bat Conservation Trust tonight.  My neighbours think I’m nuts sitting in a deck chair on the drive in the evening! I have to be in place before sunset and count bats as they emerge, noting the time of the first emergence. I counted 297 bats before those already flying started swarming round the roof of our house and making it impossible to tell which were new bats and which had already been counted. I have to count again next week. Bats do move around, so they may have moved on by then.
